It’s a beautiful day here in Hua Hin, Thailand. Just as well, because we were blessing the Joss House, which we recently completed, at the front of our latest development, Mali Signature. For those of you who are not familiar with this Thai tradition, a ‘Joss House’ is a spirit house that is built to provide shelter for all spirits so they don’t cause any problems if they were to not be appeased.

It is a long-standing tradition to place offerings of food and drink at the spirit house. Rice, bananas, coconuts, and desserts are among normal offerings. Most commonly is red, strawberry-flavoured Fanta.
The idea seems to be that friendly spirits will congregate to enjoy free food and drink and their presence will serve to keep more malign spirits away.
